The Most Beautiful Competition Dive of My Life

competitions Mar 31, 2025

Have you ever had a dive so pure, so effortless, that when you close your eyes and relive it, tears of joy stream down your face? That happened to me yesterday. I experienced the most beautiful, smooth, and effortless dive of my life—and the fact that it happened in competition made it even more special.

How Did This Happen?

After a solid but mentally challenging DYN dive on the first day, I found myself frustrated underwater. A small misstep at the turn had thrown me off, twice, and I nearly quit the dive. Luckily, I didn't give in to that thought.

On day two, my mindset shifted. I set my ego aside and gave myself a simple goal: to execute the smoothest 100m DNF I possibly could. And only if I did that, I would reward myself—with another push off the wall. I knew I had the ability as my PB is 150m.

A Dive to Remember

From the moment I entered the water before the OT, I felt calm, present, and completely at peace. No nerves. No pressure. Just a quiet confidence in what I was about to do.

As I submerged and pushed off, everything started to flow. The glide, the feeling of the water, my body and mind moving in complete unison. It was pure joy. I wasn’t chasing numbers; I was just being in the dive.

When I reached 100m, I smiled internally—I had done exactly what I set out to do. And because I felt so good, I rewarded myself. One push… then another. I surfaced at 133m, no O2 issues, no struggle—just a deep sense of joy and fulfillment.

More Than Just a Result

The dives during this competition were not my longest, but I still won overall first place.  I knew going in that I hadn’t been able to train properly to prepare. But this dive was a victory in a different way. It was beautiful because I managed my expectations, set realistic goals, stayed in the moment, and embraced the flow.

Now, I feel more motivated than ever to focus my training on longer distances. Because I know that when this mindset meets this kind of execution—combined with the desire and opportunity to give my best—I’ll be unstoppable.
